So, I cut the long weekend early…

July 4th, 2011 by Jonny Swagger

So, I cut the long weekend early enough to (nearly) finish arranging a new song: The Legendary Fred Simard. This song was written in honor of our favorite cider swilling poutine munching friend, of course, Fred Simard up in Chicoutimi. Thanks to the insane abilities of both Ethan and Ryan, this one is going to be absolutely over the top – I really can’t wait to pull this one all together in the upcoming weeks. I’ve been writing and arranging music for the better part of … Actually, I don’t want to think about how long, but let’s just say I was in the Pubcrawlers for 2 1/2 years and the Swaggerin’ Growlers for 6 1/2 years now, as well as projects prior and this is by far the most excited I’ve been for a new album.

I’m going to take about 5 minutes to make myself another Gin and Fresca (AKA the Billy Bueno), and get back to it.

P.S. : We’ll gladly take any and every suggestion for places to play pretty much all up and down the East coast. Don’t worry, midlands, plains, rockies and Left coast, we haven’t forgotten you, we just gotta figure out a good enough circuit of places to play where we don’t blatantly starve. Then, to foreign shores!

What’s up in the world of Growler

So, It’s been a long month or so – where the hell to begin? After the shows with The World / Inferno Friendship Society, we discovered we had discovered a wonderful new group of people to booze with. So when we weren’t working, writing new material, or trying to book our Fall/Winter tour, the lovely Mora, Rebecca(http://www.rebeccaschlappich.com/), and Leslie (http://endleslie.wordpress.com/) were all in town for a couple of the weekends, and we had a grand old time going to festivals and getting thrown out of bars, pissing off passerbys, you know, real wholesome family fun. Then the lot of them were back in town for the Bouncing Souls show, which of course, was incredible. My memory of the night was hazy for certain, but I do know I ended up talking with Bryan, and Zak K of Chunksaah. Damn good people, I gotta say.

Somewhere in this mess, I also began the recording sessions for the Old Edison / Time & Place split, and then get dog sick for a few days. WOOF.

New Material: The writing sessions for Outlaw Waltz have been over the top, and I am genuinely excited for what we’re coming up with. It’s all over the place in all of the right ways, really. There was a brown out in the middle of last night’s practice, which had us hanging on the next door stoop in classic Allston fashion drinkin’ and the like. The power came back on, and the PA just proceeded to howl like an angry, tiny, shrieking Chihuahua. By the end of practice, we almost hurled that fucker outside of the nearest window, and we’re going back to try an fixing our older, more powerful one that we successfully beat the living shit out of in the last 3+ years and 15,000 miles of owning it.

This is what we’ve got going for new songs, as of last practice:

  • Outlaw Waltz
  • Carry Me Away
  • All I Want
  • Before The Morning Comes
  • The Booze Will Flow
  • Six Strings & Gasoline

With several more on deck. I can’t wait.

Also, any booking help down the east coast would be greatly appreciated. This shit was way easier in 2009.

Oh right, things that aren’t facebook

So, we apparently don’t ever remember to update this bitch. Long and the short of it – we just played 3 dates with the World / Inferno Friendship Society. And it was fucking AWESOME. Tonight? New Haven, CT, at Elm Bar (Old Rudy’s) with the Alehounds. See you there, motherfuckers.

Here We Go Again

January 13th, 2011 by Jonny Swagger

Alright, I’ve set up the Facebook page to import everything from the News Section of our website. Furthermore, I just made writing accounts for all of the other Growlers. Let the calamity begin!

Also, hope to see you up in Dover, NH on Friday, at the birthplace of the Swaggerin’ Growlers: the Barley Pub. We go on at 9:30, and play for the next 3 hours or so. Hope you can come out and say hi. We’d love to see some old friends.
